Question: When does apple picking begin?

Mahoning Valley Farmer Answer:
September is the big month for apples. Starting harvest dates may vary by as much as two weeks due to weather conditions, geographical location of the farm, and other factors.

Different varieties ripen at different times. Apple harvests can start as early as July 15 for early apples. Most apples in the Mahoning Valley area are harvested starting around September 1st through October 25th, with late harvests going to the end of October.

If you are interested in picking your own, you need to check with an orchard near you for picking times and dates. Some orchards pick some of their apples first to fill orders and sell in their own Farm Markets.
