Answers From Your Friendly Farmer

Question: I am interested in hosting a Farmer’s Market at our place of business in order to offer easy shopping access and to promote an environment conducive to the health and well being of our employees. Would you be able to suggest a vendor or any suggestions on how to pursue this project?

Mahoning Valley Farmer Answer:
The Mahoning Valley is busy planning and implementing a variety of programs in order to offer residents locally grown fresh and affordable foods. Bringing a market to the workplace is definitely one that is being reviewed.

In this region, one excellent resource on fresh food options is Jim Converse, Market Manager of the Northside Farmer's Market in Youngstown. You can reach him by email at jwcphd@aol.com or by phone at 330-518-6971.

For those out of this area who may wish to sponsor a one-time event or set up a place for a Farmer's Market, a good place to start would be your local Farmers Markets, a local Farm Bureau office, or the community branch of a university that provides agricultural education and services. In Mahoning Valley, we are fortunate to also have an active Soil and Water Conservation District Office that assists in making such information available.
